3. Leap of faith.

Change. A big scary word. For the best or worst, we are always afraid of it because change means the unknown, and unknown is terrifying. Do you remember the last time you had to change something? The last time you felt terrified? I do. It happened to me three times in my life, and it’s happening again, right now.

The whole of last year felt like a blind hike to the top of the mountain, I was doing one step forward and four steps back. By the end of it, I was so tired, angry and frustrated, sweat and tears ran down my face, I kicked and screamed, I tried everything I knew, and despite all that, I still couldn’t climb the mountain. I was lost. They say you have to get lost to find the way out, and that’s what happened to me. So I paused my journey, closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and sat very-very still, and then as a morning sunshine, the answer came to me – I need to change my course, I need to stop stubbornly forcing my way to the top of this mountain, put it on hold and go explore the rest of the world. I need to go on a journey to discover new places they have on the other side of the world, find great peaks to conquer and uncover new treasures.

And that’s exactly how life, being a model, works. Things change all the time. One day you live in one place, you have your “home”, your gym membership and that one coffee shop that you spend way too much money in, and then whoosh, and you are gone. How long you going for, you have no clue. Are you coming back, no one knows for sure, and that is so scary. You are like a little penguin with no nest, wobbling around the vast land, living your life day by day. You are a tourist wherever you go, you feel unsettled and alien, but despite all that, deep down you always know, that you are better off moving in the new, scary, mysterious direction than being lost somewhere halfway.

All those books you read, teach you of the importance of being flexible, agile, going with the flow, but wow, you have no idea how that feels until you are about to do it, the butterflies you going to get deep down in your belly. Does it mean, you ask yourself, that I have to leave everything I know behind? Exit that comfort zone I’ve been basking in for so long? Find a new favourite place for my morning coffee? And the answer to all of that and more is “yes”. Yes, you should take that step, and you will feel scared, uncomfortable and unsure, but maybe, just maybe, at the other end of this hike, you will find something so great and unique, something that will change you or your life in the most beautiful way, and you will be glad that you did it. Because we all know, that whatever makes you uncomfortable is your biggest gift of opportunity for growth.

And so with mixed feelings of excitement and anxiety of the unknown, I packed my bags, jumped on the plane and took a leap of faith to my first destination – Paris, the city of love, light and pleasures. And if you’ve ever been to Paris, the one thing you do know, Paris teaches you how to live, enjoy life and just be. So despite all those butterflies in my belly, I open my arms and my heart to all new that’s to come. I promise to keep walking forward and not let fears to stop me. And then one day, when the timing is right, I will build myself a cosy nest.

So friends, don’t be scared of change, walk towards it, grow and improve each day, live your life to the fullest, and know that at the end, things are always working out for you.

Love, Alek.
